Casey Anthony

The verdict is frustrating. I have sorta leaned both ways in watching the media's response; initially I was astounded that she was only charged with lying. Then I understood that although the jury wasn't claiming they felt she was innocent, but they couldn't convict her of murder (and possibly send her to death row) when there wasn't enough hard evidence. I felt that the burden was on the prosecution to prove Casey murdered Caylee, and that they must not have fulfilled that role.

But now I feel that although the prosecution could have made better decisions (i.e. focusing on the manslaughter), the jury is at fault for this woman going free. I saw an interview with one of the jurors defending her decision, based on the fact that she believed Caylee died because of an accident, and there isn't a law regarding medical care or safety etc....WTF!? I cannot believe that the jury based their "not guilty" verdict on the fact that Casey claimed she drowned in their pool...WHAT KIND OF ACCIDENT RESULTS IN A 2 YR OLD IN TRASH BAGS WITH DUCT TAPE OVER HER MOUTH?? I believe there is more than circumstantial evidence when the mother continually lies about virtually everything, and then supposedly admits she drowned in a pool....yet there's no questioning why or how or who left her in trash bags and duct tape in a swamp!? If they were going to buy her "accident" story without a SHRED of proof, why couldn't they at least find out why an ambulance wasn't there to take her body away the day she was found? Couldn't the defense at least give a full admission (i.e. elaborate on their fictional story) of the happenings if they were going to propose (the lie) that a sexually abused mother accidentally allowed her 2 yr old to drown?

I hope every state passes Caylee's law about notifying authorities when your kid's "missing."
Yeah I get that her stupid and selfish and deluded and whore-ish behavior doesn't necessarily a murderer make. And it's frustrating that the tape of the conversation between Casey and her parents while incarcerated, in which she responded to her parents hearing the drowning story with "surprise surprise", was not admissable. But there were more than 2 ways to go with this jury and they chose a very weak and confusing one. Regardless of whether they truly felt she spitefully murdered her daughter, the purposefully unanswered questions on the part of the ONLY person responsible for Caylee's life, should have at least resulted in child abuse or negligence or endangerment.
It's cases like these that make me question whether we should have the Fifth amendment..you know if she had taken the stand she wouldn't be getting out next week, adopting babies, getting pregnant with her inmate friends, going on to do porn or sell "If I Did It.." books. I respect the legal system in this country, but I definitely think there was more than enough circumstantial evidence and motive and lies on Casey's part to have at least justified the manslaughter conviction. I remember a few weeks ago hearing that the defense was expected to start with the George Anthony sexual abuse story...which to bring out right from the beginning seemed to me like a white flag of surrender. Like they knew she would be found guilty, but they had an explanation for it....but I guess it served as a distraction, and possibly garnered some sympathy for Casey, and planted seeds of doubt within the jury regarding the credibility of Casey's parents....who frustrate me too. They both said things that should have assisted the prosecution, but then Cindy Anthony claims she was the one googling "chloroform" which scientists said was found in the stinky trunk of Casey's car...ay yay yay please don't let her have kids!

I couldn't agree with you more. I am very torn on how I feel about it. I do see both sides, but I also feel there was enough circumstantial evidence to convict her. Maybe not death row, but keep her ass in jail! It makes me furious that she will soon be walking the street a free woman!

I had to cry while reading her story. I can't understand it. I just can't. I die inside when my son is hurt on accident :(

I know..every time I hear a story about a toddler like this I see Lucas or Olivia in that position and become overly paranoid for a while...so heartbreaking when they are hurt. I can't understand her either. And yes Shawna, she definitely needs to stay behind bars, or in a mental hospital.
