It's on the main highway that goes through Littlerock, Pearblossom Highway or the 138. Most people in southern CA drive through there on their way to Vegas. Littlerock is also known as "the Fruit Basket of the Antelope Valley", because it used to be a bunch of orchards. I remember in front of my house, there was a big irrigation well thingy. There are still some local farms as Charlie Browns sells a lot of locally grown fruit and veggies.
wikipedia had this photo of 2 agricultural workers in Littlerock, CA in 1946--they were apparently promised 25 cents for each wormy pear they could find, but only found 2 in 27 tons of fruit:

My dad tried growing almonds, cherries, nectarines, apples, and grapes. I don't know if I ever tried the grapes, but the apples, though small were okay. I don't remember the nectarines. The almonds were good but it was hard to get them out of their shells. Our neighbors in the back of us had a peach tree that sometimes yielded huge peaches. If they hung over into our yard, my mom took them and made peach cobbler sometimes. I hope wherever we go next, that John and I can grow fruits and vegetables. It sounds really rewarding!

There will be lots of fun things we can do out there--even the devil's punchbowl would be fun for a little while with the kids. It will be so wierd to live in the AV again--and be a mom with 2 babies!
Wow I am hungry now!
