Richmond Day Trip

Saturday was John's last day off and he decided we needed to go to the Richmond Zoo. He has also wanted to go back out to Richmond to eat at a famous barbecue restaurant he saw on Man V. Food. So we made a day trip of it. :)
The Metro Richmond Zoo, was a little smaller than we imagined it'd be, but that's because they are strictly run on the admission/donation funds, not the government. It was basically an elaborate petting zoo, but we all enjoyed it, especially Lucas. I love how spontaneous John has become; ever since he has been going on underways every month, he really values the time he has at home with us and wants to either be doing something productive (for the transition/move) or making family memories. It has been so great to always have little things to look forward to, and it helps the time go by while we count down the days to freedom :)

Some cool ducks with afros and flamingos

Some black swans, and a wierd wide-billed pinkish bird, and Lucas like the cute little prairiedogs!

Some cool snakes you could barely see through the dirty thick glass, baby tigers, monkeys, asiatic black bear, white tigers, porcupine, snow leopard and a binturong(?)

Some sad orangutans

Some rhino's, endangered galapagos tortoises, cool cheetahs, and loving giraffes

Lucas and John fed the giraffes! Lucas was so excited to pet him, and then watched him scarf down these little pellets..and thought "Boy those must taste really good!"...he ate one. Apparently liked it too. yuck!

Some zebra, a roaming peacock, and some hungry camel---they stole the cup!

An alligator, huge elk, llama, bison and a funny blackbuck.

The little train ride through to see some cute endangered gazelles and deer--and to feed our own little hungry goats

Some cute pengiuns, huge emus, a sleepy monkey and Lucas gets one last look at the baby tigers

Then we headed to Buzz & Ned's BBQ--pretty good:

Where to next daddy?
