*-Mine-*
well, I didn't have a car until I was married in 2004,in fact this was similar to my mode of transportation prior to 2004:

But once I married John, I acquired this 2002 Chevrolet S-10:

It was fun and convenient for hauling things, but definitely got worn down from the NY weather, is a gas hog, and definitely isn't a family car. But John typically drove it to work, so we bought this 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt for me to use:

So technically this was 'my first car.'
*-John's-*
Well, I found this old picture which motivated me to write a blog about it. The picture is worth it! It's funny to see because this was John's grandmother's car, handed down to him when he was in high school. He drove this car to school and work (then taco bell) when we were enemies. I hated him and his cadillac! Little did I know, I would be picked up in this REAL gas hog almost everyday our senior year. It was like driving a boat. But very comfortable. Had an 8-track player in it too. It was subsequently sold when John went off to boot camp, but not before I had to see it in front of his family's house a few times while he was gone. I cried when I had to see his empty brown cadillac and know that he was miles away, and I thought I would never see or hear him again. It was so difficult for that year of 2003, but our goals and hopes all came to fruition not too much longer after that, and I still can't believe sometimes, especially after seeing this picture, that I am going to have John Hodge's baby! We are totally in love with each other, with Lucas, and with our life together. There is still so much more we have yet to experience, especially after April 2011, when he won't belong to the Navy anymore. I am very proud of us, and endlessly proud of all that John has accomplished and become. That is everything in a nutshell that this photo inspires*:
OKay, well I tag Brianne, Katie, Sarah, Iris, Jenny, + Ricky to tell about your first cars.

Ok since my blog is private, I will post my response here.
I am one of those people who gets "stuck." What I mean by that is, I plant my roots and do the same thing over and over again for years. That's why, if you look at old pics of me, I look the same (except for some aging.)
At the same time, I am VERY loyal. So in a sense, it can be a positive trait.
Anyway, my first car cost me $1,500exactly. I had $1,500 in my savings account when I was about 19years old (I think.) I was working for minimum wage or just a little over. I can't remember too well.
But instead of paying the car off with cash, I financed it. I had a very HIGH interest rate, but I build my credit with this car.
It was a white 1991 or 1992 Cadillac Sedan Deville:

It had power EVERYTHING (steering, window, seats, mirrors etc), the heater and air conditioning worked very well, the radio was digital, the interior was very well-taken care of. You can tell it belonged to someone who really cared about it. I loved it, I really I did. It was powerful as well as "large and in charge!" LOL! I felt safe in it.
And good thing because guess what? I was hit while making a left turn. Someone ran a red light and BAM! Right into my two right side doors. I wasn't even done paying it off. Looked like I had been hit by a wrecking ball.
Of course, having no money to repair it and the fact that the guy that hit me left the scene, I had to drive around with my doors this way. And I did.
One morning while taking a right turn exit off of the freeway, my doors opened right up! I got so scared! The sound of the outside traffic! I thought all of my things in the passenger seat were going to fall out! Very scary moment.
Finally, I gave the car away to my "friend" who really needed a car. She agreed to make the repairs to the car and take over the final few $150 monthly payments.
Welp, bad idea. She fixed the car alright, but never paid ONE car payment. So I ended up paying the car off myself and she kept it. Believe me, that's a whole other blog. Yes, I learned my lesson.
Anyway! I bought my next car in 1998 (I think) It was a slightly used burgundy 1997 Nissan Maxima.

To convince me to buy the car, the dealer included an interior upgrade from fabric to leather and lowjack service.
When I drove this car around and it was new, I remember getting looks left and right from everyone (Or at least you feel that way in a new car.) It was such a beautiful car. At the same time, girls in MUSTANGS for some reason, always wanted to race me.
I have to confess, I did race a couple of times and won LOL! I can't believe I did that! :S so dangerous. And in the freeway too. Going like 120 MPH!
Fast forward to today and I still have the car.
We talk about getting rid of it, but you know what? It has been with me for about 10 years. I love this car. It runs well for now (knocking on wood)
If you look at it, it looks worn and torn a bit. But it takes me to work every day.
G said thought that if all goes well financially, in the next year or more, he wants me to have a more "safer" car for me and the baby.
We shall see.
Thank you for tagging me.
well thanks for the story- yeah that's pretty bad racing at 120mph!
We love cadillacs- old and new. we definitely will have to get a family car when we can next year..but for now it will be backpain bending over and getting lucas in and out of that 2 door low to the ground cobalt. Well, i don't care too much, i am mostly excited to be with lucas and john at home anyway!
oooh! I didn't even THINK about the back breaking part! That is very true. Guess I'd better warm up and stretch before putting the baby into the car! LOL!
