Although I am still uncomfortable having the snake in our house, I know John will take the best care to make it secure. When we came home from our KC trip, he noticed it wasn't eating. A short while later, he saw it begin to shed it's skin, obviously he is growing. It's pretty crazy to see all of the skin come off like this:
John was proud that it came off in one piece, because that means we have kept it at the right temperature and humidity. Bubbles ate and pooped happily after that.
In better news, after getting Nicodemus to respond to my recorded tree frog calls, we felt bad that he might be lonely in that big terrarium. So we bought him a friend, who we assume to be a girl (she is quieter than him). I had to get one relatively the same in size, because they eat anything smaller than themselves. I am pretty sure Nico is a boy because of his loud boisterous calls. He seemed very happy and interested when we added a friend to his home. I also bought some fake plants to suction to the side, since tree frogs are happiest when they have lots of places to hide. I also got a small heating pad that sticks to the back glass wall, to provide them with many different temperatures for their comfort.
She is not as bright green as Nico (although they change colors at will) and has a few more white spots on her back. I didn't want to stress her our too much, so I haven't handled her much. There are a few ways to supposedly sex them.
We have named her "Penelope" (pronounced PEEE NUH LOPE)
They both liked the fake plant hiding space, and cuddled up to each other the first night. They also congregate right above the heating pad, which must provide the perfect ambient temperature above it. It's fun to see them active at night with their big black eyes opened all the way, looking for crickets. She is a jumpy one! I wonder if I'm right about their sexes, if they will have babies? They won't survive anyway, since the water has to be pretty hot. Also if you don't rescue them right away, they will eat them...Anyway, they are fun to watch and listen to.
