More Interesting Stuff About My Dad

My brother Reggie, from my dad's first marriage, has been studying my dad's family genealogy to make a book. This is how I found out some new information regarding my heritage; my dad was a product of rape during the time his mother was a P.O.W. in WW2 in the Philippines, and she was raped by a Japanese guard. This means I am most likely 1/4 Japanese.
Anyway, Reggie also sent some military forms/certificates from when my dad was in the Army, and some pictures I thought I would share. This is my dad evidently hunting pheasants and ducks:

I don't know how old he was there--but it looks like it was Christmas.

And this is a picture of my dad's mom, when she married Gregorio Gallardo, my dad's stepdad who raised him in Hawaii:

WOW! This is so neat! I love hearing about Dad! You look so much like him in that hunting picture.
Your grandma was raped and didn't have an abortion. I'm sure it was as cruel and unwanted as any rape but she still gave birth to her son and raised him. The reason she didn't abort him isn't the point--its just that no matter who the "father" is, the baby inside is always half you. I think it's important to think about that.

Very true. Mom said that dad's mom loved him so much and spoiled him--she worked in the cafeteria in his high school and dad was embarassed by her acting like she knew him lol. She used to make him whatever food he wanted any time, mostly spam eggs and rice.
but yeah its a pretty amazing story especially since she gave birth to him on the actual boat out of the philippines once she was released.

Wowww, I didn't know she worked in the cafeteria and stuff. That is so endearing.

That's great you are able to get pictures of your family like those. I'm sure you cherish them. What a great interesting background. I love family history stories.

i don't have many pictures of even my childhood sadly (my mom has them at a friends house and i fear we may never see them again). But i will have to be the one to start the scrapbooking/picture/video saving in my family now!
