I came back to your blog because the topic of walking came up with my SIL and I today. Her daughter is 1 week older than Lucas and 3 weeks older than Eddie. She said she heard that walkers make babies lazy to walk because they know they can sit. She said her daughter walked before age 1 because she didn't use a walker. Is that true in the experience you have with friend's walking kids? I have never heard of that! Let me know :)
thanks yeah! he almost has it, maybe he will spider walk like me lol.
hmm...i never heard of that. I think how early a baby walks just depends on when they are ready and strong enough. I will ask my friends and see. I don't think Lucas will have a hard time walking. You should ask Sarah about Raquel and Maxine, but I think all babies are different---i didnt walk til a year, and before then i spiderwalked but i dont know if i used a walker. My friend Elise's kids all walked real early so I will ask her. I am not worried about it though--as you saw in the video, he is starting to take steps when we hold him too. i will let ya know!
hey jen- i am feeling okay, better since being in the 2nd trim. I am anxious to find out the sex at the end of this month! It's getting harder to carry big lucas up and down the stairs though!can't imagine what it will be like when i cant see my feet anymore....
lately, the dogs have been causing more trouble than anything else; they are neurotic and keep making messes in the house, even though i let them out. Shmoopy keeps taking lucas' toys and its making me so mad! we are going to have to make some major changes before #2 comes... thanks for asking!
Wow Look at him! You're excited now I'm sure, but just wait. You'll be wishing he was staying in one place like he use to:) He'll soon be into everything and that stage is so stressful. He sure is a strong little guy. Already trying to workout and do push-ups.
As for Iris' question, I've also heard that walkers aren't good for kids to learn to walk. Might be true if they're on their tippy toes and like Iris said are sitting. I had Ethan in (not really a walker but something similar)a table playset with a seat that was connected that he could walk around in. He loved it. Anyways he ended up walking on the 4th of July (11 days before his first birthday.) It seemed kind of out of the blue, up steep hills, which was really weird, but impressive. I think a year is pretty average age to learn. As for my daughter Sophia she was starting to really walk at 7 months. I never used that seat or a walker with her. There are other factors in this though, like gender. Since girls seem to be much faster at doing those things than boys. She also was much more petite which is easier to move her weight around then my son with his big bulky body. He was double her size at the same age. So I'm not sure if walkers really have a role in how they learn to walk or not. It's possible. But like Samantha says all kids learn things at different rates.
thanks about song choices--kinda cheesy but Lucas made me do it.
brianne- thanks for your input about walking. i haven't heard back from elise yet (she DOES have 3 babies to care for...sheesh!) but i don't know if it causes lazy babies, but Lucas is happy in it, I think he will be walking soon enough, and he is safe in it so I won't be taking it away yet. i think Lucas is very strong and his doctor does too, so that may be a factor. I have put him in that walker since he was about 2 months and could barely touch the floor! so i guess how soon he walks will be somewhat of an answer as to walker-harm lol.
i guess i used a walker, and all kids that use walkers eventually walk so if it delays it a few months doesn't really matter to me :)
I agree, if it is delayed, it should be better :D Who wants a baby who can walk away from you? ;) JK
I was just curious. Thank you gals for the input. In my inexperienced opinion, I think that if you ONLY sit them in the walker, yes it will delay the learning process. But, if you put them in there, PLUS help teach them to walk the way Sam and John were, in that video, then that makes a huge difference.
G just bought Eddie a walker toy too. I was an "early" walker (at age 10 months) But I was not as bulky and heavy as our son is. And I have also heard that most boys are delayed more than girls, in the walking department.
