John bought this game we have played at Jim + Shawna's called "Ticket to Ride." It's pretty easy to learn and fun! Norman went with us once to game night and so he knew how to play. We all taught Mom and Susan how, and they caught on pretty quick.
Norman pissed off Susan really bad, by doing a move specifically to block her, with no benefit to himself lol. And then he ended up winning, by meeting 8 out of 9 of his destinations. We will probably play more tonight after eating. This game is better than Scrabble--John Norman and I played scrabble the other night, and John always wins, and I get mad...well it got switched around on him when my first word was, "Broilers" using ALL 7 of my letters, earning me an extra 50 points! And BTW, he usually wins by adding "es" or "ed" at the end of my good words. Next time I will get pictures because John really wanted to punch me in the face. I think the final score was Me-250, John-158, Norman-120. It was too much for John to handle. We will be investing more in other cool board games, probably next on the list is Acquire (John's favorite about investing/merging hotel chains). I recommend everyone try these games out with your family and friends!

I've not heard of most of those games except of course for Scrabble. Thanks for the recommendations. I grew up with board games and looooove them!
The games G and I play here are Scrabble, Yahtzee, mancala, Uno. When guests are over we like Guesstures, Taboo, Cranium, Risk, Monopoly....
About Norman Blocking Susan, I think it's so funny when people get so into the game like that. It makes things more fun!!!!
You guys getting mad is so funny. We have played lots of games at our house with Iris and Gerardo and to imagine any of us getting that angry is, well, unimaginable. That Ticket to Ride game looks fun to me.
iris- yeah, those games are specifically for the real 'gamers' that invest money into collectible stuff. The games are complex, but once you learn them, they really get you into finding new strategies. Very thought-provoking. Our new hobby!
Sarah- then you guys aren't playing the right games- and not often enough! The fact that jim, shawna, john and i are so into it and competitive is what really makes it fun! We challenge each other so much now, and we keep on adding new games to our game night agenda lol. Ticket to ride is not as complex, but there are lots of strategies depending on your motives. YOu guys should try it out! (what sucks about the other games, is that you really have to learn from someone who is a pro, before taking it on yourselves.
These games aren't typically sold in any old retail store- they are only found online, and in specialty game stores.
I get a couple of catalogs in the mail that have these types of games. They are pricey though! You're right, we do not play often enough. I don't think we've played in over a year.
It's really worked out for us, because game night at jim and shawna's totally erases whatever bad mood the Navy has caused him to be in lol. It's good for our marriage.
