My Sweet Baby Boy Reacts to "Spirited Away"

We went to the library today and checked out a Japanimation movie John and I watched a while ago called, "Spirited Away." As soon as I put it on, both babies were drawn into the story, seeming to understand it more than I did. There are some sad parts, not surprisingly since Japanimation movies are typically pretty harsh with kids and emotions. If anything, I thought the wierd spirits and characters would scare Lucas, but he only felt sad for Chihiro, when her parents were turned into pigs...and when she misses them and couldn't find them. It caught me off guard; I was holding them on the couch and I hear Lucas start breathing heavily and fast and then I see his little pout and his eyes watering! My heart melted. So they had their nap after I read them some happy books. Later on tonight, when daddy was home, we put it on and Lucas remembered...his face was concerned right away. Then he started pouting as soon as Chihiro's parents walked into the tunnel in the beginning...here he is:

I know it seems mean, but I wanted to record it because pretty soon he won't be so open and reveals his sensitivities. And I was proud he could truly empathize. Don't worry, we hugged him lots and reassured him it was just a movie and mommy and daddy will always be here with him.

I asked him if he wanted me to turn it off and watch TV about half way through (it's a long movie) and he said "uh huh.." I said "You don't want to watch Chihiro?" and he pouted a "no..." Didn't think this movie would have such a big effect on him. But now I remember when he first watched "Up," he pouted a bit when the bird got caught...so adorable!

This made me tear up :( He's such a sweet heart. Oh man, I am at work and have watery eyes. Poor baby boy :( I am glad you comforted him...He's lucky to have you there with him all the time.

I know...it makes me tear up too. John thought I was wierd for "making him" watch it lol. I think he is just really able to comprehend things and situations and put himself in that situation so I think it's a sign of maturity. It's bittersweet to see him growing up so fast. And I am very grateful that I get to be with him too...thought about it last night after they were asleep and I wanted to join them lol.

p.s. you should watch this movie shawna! (Iris-i'm pretty sure you and Gerardo have already seen it)
