I've been on ancestry a lot, and finding out John's parents ancestry. Especially Granny, as I found out the ship she came from Italy on, was the beautiful Conte Di Savoia. So, since I've been learning how to refurbish furniture for the cabin, I decided to personalize these side tables for Louise as a gift for Mother's Day.
Side tables in great condition $45 on craigslist.
Got a new ivory knob and sanded with Olivia.
Louise's favorite color is blue and I really liked this shade.
Then I stained the outer trim a darker shade and sealed with polycrylic
Sand & repeat.
Then I bought these Italian post cards on ebay, with Italian liners on them, some of the Conte Di Savoia. I also bought an informative book on these 2 "sister ships," the Conte Di Savoia, & the Rex. I took some nice photos from it and decoupaged them and sealed with Polycrylic. Then I decided to print the roster granny was on in 1939, on scrapbook paper and just before I house it, I looked up what ship her husband came over on (although coincidentally, they were both born in Southbridge MA) and he came on the Rex in 1935--just 4 yrs before Ida! So it seemed perfect to have both their rosters together:)
I also found this promotional poster with both sister luxury liners :)
We are holding onto them until they finish their house this summer. It was really fun to work on these and I look forward to doing more!
