John, Susan, Lucas and I went down to Norfolk on Labor day and went to one of the big malls out there. Well, when we returned to the car apparently (I don't know why she didn't tell us then) Susan noticed our back temporary license plate was missing. I noticed it yesterday while we were out. I wasn't sure if there always was one there, or if for some reason maybe John removed it. John has been on duty all day yesterday and hasn't come home yet, so he doesn't know. I just read an article on how criminals are targeting temporary license plates from new cars to steal and put on cars that they have stolen to steal gas etc. It really makes me want a gun. I hate how irresponsible and entitled the criminals in this state are, especially in that area. You put on the local news and you always hear about shootings and child abuse/murder always in Norfolk or Virginia Beach. I know it's just a temporary plate, but it pisses me off that some dirty jerk's hands were on our new car. The rearview camera is right above the plate, it's too bad it doesn't record.
And to make things worse, I have called the Norfolk Police department to report it (as the article says to do) and they blew me off. Some bitchy lady answered and said she didn't have time to deal with it now, so I could call back or leave my number. I said I'll leave me number and said "My name is Samantha Hodge." She didn't say anything for a while so I said "Are you ready for my number?" and she yelled back "Wait a minute!" and I swear it took her 10 minutes to "write" my name. ANd then 10 more for my number, which I am sure she won't call back to file a report. So nothing will be done about it, and they will get away with it. We will never go down there by choice again, and we will probably get better plate covers that can't be taken off with just a screwdriver. Here's the picture I took of it the day after buying it:
And, we will be getting a gun for me finally. Just a handgun--I've wanted one for a while and now that we have a family, I think I am more than capable of shooting to protect them if need be.

All I can say is this pisses me off. I hate that criminals can get away with things like this.
i know! I don't know why i am so irritated since it's just the temp plate, but I still feel violated you know? And the fact that the cops don't care makes it more frustrating. If they knew to look for a temp plate from "casey chevrolet" with the numbers i give them, they might catch a criminal who has committed worse crimes but they don't care. i thought john would be really mad for sure, but I guess I am more mad than he is.
But, I know who's gonna be more pissed when we get the first inevitable dent/scratch or crack in the glass/body of the car lol.
I've gotten my license plate stolen when I was living in Lancaster. We saw the guys who did it too. We called the cops and they came. AV is bad. Even in Alhambra we got stuff stolen out of our garage,
I'm sure the first scratch will be very upsetting. Just let it not be you from you.
i know! lol. as long as john does it, he ..well, actually he would get mad regardless! Now that we have a growing family, I am thinking more and more about moving to a very safe area with good schools. I like our neighborhood though- i can trust them. It's just certain isolated areas the further south you go.
did the guys get caught for stealing your plates? how frustrating...to have to file and go to the dmv for new ones etc...
oh dear. am i a suspect? I didn't say anything 'cos i thought it would be a little presumptuous to assume you and john hadn't noticed when you have been behind the car more than me. i didn't want to get my head bitten off for stating the obvious. so sorry.
it's okay- i guess we don't look at the trunk as much since we just push the button on our key to open it and the plate is out of view. it wouldn't have made a difference anyway since the norfolk police dept wouldn't file a report for me.
