A Change in Plans

If you have been talking to me recently, or read my blogs you would know that I was ecstatic to get to have a 4-D ultrasound done this friday. I was so excited for John and I to see Lucas' face and who he resembles, see him suck his thumb, move around etc. After reading Iris's blog where she linked to this: FDA warns against 'keepsake' Ultrasounds I realized that I shouldn't have them done.

Although the article doesn't explicitly say that the ultrasounds are harmful, there hasn't been enough studies on it and the machine is using a lot of energy which should be respected. I also realized that I can't be a hypocrite, while fighting for the rights and safety of babies in the womb, I can't have an elective procedure done that could possibly jeopardize my own baby, just for the sake of seeing his face now. What's 3 more months!? It was very hard to give up, but I know it's right.

SO...we are exchanging a chance at a photo of Lucas in utero, for a huge photographic mural for Lucas' room! This is a photo of what the mural would look like, and it's really big, 12'9" by 8'10":

here is what it would look like in a room (it will cover one whole wall of the room):

Awww Samantha. In a way I am glad you aren't doing it, for the baby's sake. But in another way, I feel bad.

Anyway, I didn't do it. But I REALLY wanted to. Especially when my sister in law, who is about 2 weeks ahead of me, invited us to see hers.

It is really very, very cool!

But I went with her to see her previous baby's U/S. What I discovered is that YES it is an emotional experience. But it really isn't worth POSSIBLY hurting the baby.

My sister will be painting a mural in our baby's room! How funny. I just have to find what I want her to paint!

So are you having the mural painted? Or are you buying the mural backdrop?

It's an actual photograph of some island (forgot the name). And it comes in 8 large panels that you paste to your wall. The paste comes with it. The quality looks pretty good, and the feedback from the seller is 99% positive (it's on ebay). check it out here, they have many murals/borders/decals:

Don't feel bad- i was thinking it all over last night and reading Dr Laura's "How Could You Do That? The Abdication of Courage, Conscience & Character" and I know I made the right decision. I can wait 3 more months and take as many pictures as I want!

I trust Dr. Laura and love listening to her too. ^__^ I didn't know about something called "How could you do that?"

Dr. Laura is the reason why I am so sad about not being able to stay home.

I don't even want to go into that because I get frustrated :(

i'm sorry for your frustration- i realize how difficult it is becoming for the 'traditional' family to live on a one person income...especially in california! I am very grateful to be able to.

The dr laura book is one of her older ones, (from the 1990s) but it's a good one. basically it goes through all the "but's" and excuses for making decisions we know are wrong or selfish. it's hard to build true character nowadays, when society makes it so easy and even admirable to be selfish; they always tell you what you want to hear. it really stifles growth though. It's always harder to do the right thing, especially when no one is watching-- it's good to read books like that that instill personal responsibility! and you probably already know dr. laura doesn't pussyfoot around things!

Wow, you were so excited about that, I know. I think those 4D U/S spoil the fun of waiting anyways :)
